Noter:
Karina Dirichsdatter has an important place in Bornholm's genealogy,
not only did she become the founding mother of the widely known and
branching Dich-family, but through her second marriage to ship's
captain David Wolsen, also from Scotland, she is the founding mother
of the equally well known Wulfsen-family of Bornholm. Her own origins
remain unkown, she cannot be traced back to either the island's old
farm-families or to having any connections to families occupying
public office on Bornholm. She survived her second husband David
Wolsen and was a widow for many years, reaching a very old age. She
is mentioned in the land-registry records as late as the early 1660's
as owning land in Ibsker parish; however from 1667 she was no longer
named in the books. The reason we can document Karina Dirichsdatter's
position in the Dich-family stems from the fact that Eskild Sandersen
Dich's two sons, Albert and Sander Dich, in a court case in the
1670's declared to have inherited certain valuables from their
"farmor Karina sal. Davids" (father's mother Karina, widow of David).
Sander Dich's brother Hans Dich is also often mentioned in documents
from the 1600's; his tombstone still lies as an entrance stone in
Svaneke's church, its inscription worn away, but according to Thura's
research it was placed there by Hans Dich and his wife Johanne
Jensdatter. By these facts we can figure out that since Johanne
Jensdatter was not their father's mother, then it wasn't Hans Dich
who was their father; also, this meant that Karina, who died as David
Wolsen's widow, had earlier been Sander Dich's wife.
