DARCY ISSAC BENSON
Darcy Issac Benson (son of Issac Benson, son of Jense Peter Benson)
was born 18 May 1902, in Newton, Cache County, Utah, to Issac Benson
and Lucy Amanda Atkinson. His brothers and sisters are Lucy Devine,
Clara Christine, Alfred Lynn, and Ivan Jese. His father died 6 May
1911. He moved to Teton City, Idaho, when his mother married James
E. Stewart on 1 October 1913.
He met Myrl Agnes Hughs when she worked for his mother. Myrl was
living at Shelley, Idaho, when Darcy's mother, Mrs. Stewart, sent for
her to come work for her. She met Darcy who was living out on the
ranch. They started dating when she was 19 years of age. He was
religious and would go get her in James Stewart's Ford car. They
would ride around and go to church. They also went to the dances in
Rexburg. They were married 26 September 1923 in the Logan Temple.
Their children are Alden, Melba Edna, Jay Darcy, and Clyde Fredrick.
His brother, Lynn, lived with them. He got the flu and passed away
when he was 22 years of age. Lynn never married.
Darcy's mother died 11 January 1922, leaving three smal girls:
Jessie, Ila, and Alta. His brother Ivan would spend time in their
home. He was like a big brother to Darcy's children.
Darcy was a hard worker. He worked for farmers and farmed for
himself. When the winters were bad, he would take his children to
school because he worried about them getting there. Melba remembers
a time when he packed her to school because she was too small to wade
through the snow drifts.
Darcy became ill in the fall of 1937 and passed away 1 October 1937.
Darcy's son, Alden, was killed in Okinawa during World War II. His
son, Clyde, passed away from having his tonsils removed less than a
year after Alden was killed. His wife, Myrl, passed away on 6
February 1982. His daughter, Melba, is currently residing in Twin
Falls, Idaho. His son, Jay, is residing in Teton City, Idaho.
