Mads Madsen Kofoed purchased the inheritance rights for Eskildsgård
from his brother Jørgen and three brothers-in-law. He was named a
"fribåren mand" (free-born man) in Bornholm's "Frimænd" list of 1655.
Authority was given to him, and Christian Maccabæus, to attend the
hailing of Prince Christian as the next King of Danmark - this event
was held in København. Mads Kofoed is thought to have died sometime
between 1658 and 1665. Eskildsgård is classified as a "frigård",
later called a "proprietær" farm, the highest of the three classes of
farms.
