Jørgen Joensen Kloe lived together with his wife at Tornbygård for
about 25 years. He seems to have made a good living, as they are
mentioned among the people "able to pay their taxes"; which was not
always possible for the majority of farmers. Possibly Valborg
Mogensdatter was mainly in charge of the farm's management, as Jørgen


Kloe was heavily involved in military duties, eventually becoming
Lieutenant of the 3rd National Guard. The year after Valborg's death
he married a daughter from a neighbouring farm: Else Clausdatter
Hartwig. During the short duration of their marriage his finances
suffered greatly, the reason unkown. He did what ever he was able to
raise money: he mortgaged his two farms, the 54' and 55' Slg. in
Risby, sold his wife's share in Baggård to her brother-in-law, and
borrowed money. He never recovered solvency, when he died early in
1702 the probate records reveal that their were far more liabilities
than assets. Which seems to have come as a big surprise to everybody,


especially the "deeply grieving" young widow, who had orchestrated a
magnificient funeral, including a banner to be hung in his
remembrance in St. Klemen's Church.
